Show 760 - Gunfight At The O.K Corral

Air Date:

Wednesday, 26 October 2016

Hey Baby, Little Steven here. Now think back to the Old West, when there was no Super Bowl, no World Series, no Oscars, no Emmys, and no cable.

What did people do for fun and entertainment?

I’ll tell you what they did, they had gunfights at the O.K. Corral, and we’re celebrating it this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Joining us will be the Vanilla Fudge, the Yardbirds, the Rascals, the Kinks, the Ramones, the Shadows Of Knight, and Moby Grape.

Come find out what Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Eva, and the Olympics have in common.

It’s the Gunfight At The O.K. Corral; right here in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you this weekend in the Underground Garage.

  • Steve Hibbs

Nothing to do with this show, just wanted to lay this on those in the Underground Garage.Saw Stevie and the Disciples of Soul at Indigo at the O2 in London last nite,15 of them up there,Eddie Manion on Baritone Sax...Absolute Triumphant return from start to finish !!Came out and opened with SoulFire a song SVZ wrote for The Breakers a few years back, all the main early Southside Johnny & the Jukes numbers, tributes along the way to the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Mike Bloomfield by way of Love Disease,3 songs as a tribute to Motown,Curtis Mayfield and Etta James numbers,a fantastic cover of Down & Out in NYC by the Godfather of Soul James Brown as part of a blaxploitation feature, great arrangement on stage by Mark Ribler up there with Steve.Further tributes to Johnny Lyon ,great Little Walter cover up next ,plus Stevie's own Forever and Bitter Fruit ,sounded amazing.Richie Sambora came on at the end and they torn the place down with Can I get a Witness ! There's plenty of it up there on Twitter and Youtube etc, worth checking out.Stevie playing the Blues which he himself says he's never really got round to doing ! The Band was so slick and super tight,I was blown away by how good it was.Everyone should catch it if he tours in the Summer of '17 seriously book the tickets !...Don't try and Stop me til the good has gone ! Let me hear you say Yeah Yeah Yeah...Stevie Van Zandt and the Underground Garage Forever , You better Believe it Baby !!

I was also at the O2 gig and fully endorse what Steve Hibbs details above.

An absolutely mind-blowing show and how 15 people can produce such a tight performance over 2 1/4 hours and with such a short lead-up is totally beyond me.

If you don't move heaven and earth to get to one of the gigs when they tour in 2017 you really need to take a serious look at yourself.

Thank you Stevie for one to remember.

Yeah I just missed Stevie by a few weeks. Hi Ho Silver Lining (Jeff Beck) , Rhythm Don’t Lie (Jeremy and the Harlequins) , Count On Me (Bun E. Carlos) , Take It So Hard (Keith Richards) & Can’t Help Thinkin’ About Me (David Bowie & the Lower Third) I thought this was a recent song, but it is a 1965 song. Thanks Stevie, Keep On Rockin.

Segment 3 at 17:31 - what's the musical bed under "We started that tribute to Sam Raimi". That is one frantic guitar instrumental... Too short of a segment for Shazam to recognize.

starts right after "Killer Joe" by the Rocky Fellers
