Show 738 - Living With Purpose

Air Date:

Tuesday, 24 May 2016

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

Join me this weekend in the Underground Garage where we will get a bit reflective honoring some of our lost comrades.

We will just be thinking about life in general.

Joining us will be the Miracles, Moby Grape, and Procol Harum.

Find out what Stevie Wonder, Paul Rodgers, and Gene Clark have in common.

I’ll see you this weekend in the Underground Garage.

    Thank you for this one.

That was a fun show (in a purposeful way)....liked Prince song and David Bowie's too(had never heard either). I did recognize the voices of two faves in soundbites: Elvis in Blue Hawaii scolding the 17yr old girl for being tired of life and even better(for me)hearing Fred Astaire "She came at me in sections with more curves than the scenic railway" talking about Cyd Charisse clad in an awesome black sequins dress in the Girl Hunt ballet from Band Wagon. I know it's not(only) rock n roll but I liked it.

    Hey Marlene ! For David's "Can't Help Thinking About Me", it was played in shows 4, 81, 156, 186, 256, 281, 309, 447, 517, 603 and 674...

I wish I could recognize more soundbites between the songs... I recognize those from the Big Lebowski, High Fidelity and some others... I know there are two from "The Ref" "And I still say getting laid by an 18 year-old linebacker is just what she needs" and the one about what had happened to that Norwegian woman...

    • Marlene Sullivan

my memory is cleaner than yours....but definitely not as good! Have to choose between the two I guess...

    • Alex3

My spreadsheet tells me it was played in show 39 as well.

Playlist 39 now shows You've Got A Habit Of Leaving instead of Can't Help Thinking About Me. The new list is correct.
A lot has changed since I copied the lists. Musical beds, outros, links to artist sites, label sites and sites where the album was for sale were removed, titles and artist names were edited, and some lists are no longer available: I miss only 25, 26, 194 and 198, a lot more are missing here.

        • Steed Colliss

I have to admit my list is incomplete, especially in the first hundred shows... I'm missing from 51 to 54, 56 to 67, 69 to 77, 95 to 99...

You are correct about show 39... I had even sent an e-mail back in 2005 or 2006 about that:
"Please note that in LSUG show 39, in set 3, the Davy Jones' song that is listed is "Can't Help Thinking about Me", while the song that is actually played in the show is "You've Got a Habit of Leaving"..."

Writers always working... Little Steven must have read "Lucky Break - How I Became a Writer" by Roald Dahl...

        • Steed Colliss

Wow ! Three years down the road... I'm reading this comment because this week's show (April 7, 2019) is the updated version of show 738. Three years have already gone by... Wow indeed !!! Thanks for the nice comment, Greggie! Nice to read that what's written is appreciated !!!

  • Tom Grear

make everyday count is your message, nice, because you could be dead tomorrow, how about this for a message: DON'T BE A JUNKIE, oh sorry I forgot it's rock n roll, you can't say that

  • Ron Lynch

All good advice Stevie. Sounds like you have read Examined Lives like Bruce did. 5 Cool ones here. Restless Nights (Bruce Springsteen), You’re Going To Lose That Girl (Beatles), The Man Who Got Away (Bruce Springsteen), Down And Out In New York City (James Brown) the coolest godfather of soul & I Want You (Bob Dylan). Thanks Stevie Keep on Rockin.
