Show 729 - The Week That Was

Air Date:

Monday, 21 March 2016

Hey baby, Little Steven here, and this week in the Underground Garage we are celebrating all kinds of Rock n’ Roll events, including the very first Rock n’ Roll show ever, and the very first Rock n’ Roll hit song as the theme of a movie ever.

How did the kids react to that?

Oh, very calmly. They just ripped the seats out of the theater when they heard it.

That’s right, and joining us for the party will be Chuck Berry, the MC5, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the Beatles, the Stones, and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.

Come find out what Riff, Action, A-Rab, Ice, Baby John, and Anybodys have in common.

It’s the teenage rampage and the birth of Rock n’ Roll this weekend in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I will see you in the blackboard jungle, also know as the Underground Garage.

This broadcast is as essential to me as Turner Classic Movies--right up there with oxygen!
Grateful for Little Steven and his team Every Day of My Life.
Can I put in a couple of requests?
The Lonely Sea by The Beach Boys
And something good by Peter Green/Danny Kirwan line-up of early Fleetwood Mac (beyond Oh, Well or Black Magic Woman). Maybe: Like It This Way
    Thanks! and LOVE you guys!

      Amen sister! ;)

I always am amazed how many people DON'T know about the "Real" Fleetwood Mac. Even people who I had previously considered knowledgeable about music. Monya7, did you know that Wolfgang's Vault has a number of Peter Green era full concerts available for download ? As I recall about the same price as an album from iTunes.

      Couldn't agree more!

Another great show Steven et al! Thanks for all the research (and insight) you guys come up with on the history of rock 'n' roll. Rock Around The Clock is still a great song, and that guitar solo with only 2 takes available is fantastic. Amazing!!

DIG IT! plus there is something truly spiritual hearing the Shelters and then the new Tom Petty tune!!! great stuff!!! I have been sick with a virus and spent the time getting caught up! thanks! :)

Saw a band called "Green Machine" (singular) opening for Biohazard and Slayer back in february 1996, but I doubt it's the same band...
