Show 714 - The Big Sleep

Air Date:

Monday, 07 December 2015

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

It’s time to prepare for winter so this week in the Underground Garage we are celebrating sleep.

Joining us will be Cheap Trick, the Raspberries, the Nazz, Traffic, Blondie, and the Pretty Things.

Come find out what Phillip Marlowe, Mamie Van Doren, and Louis Prima have in common, and it has something to do with a five-neck guitar.

I’ll see you this weekend in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you in the Underground Garage.

Great show as usual, I enjoyed the Traffic set. I did miss the T. Rex song and all of set 5. I think there was a mistake as set 5 was the start of the Christmas show. I really did enjoy Manic Hispanic!

Looks Like Everybody got back from Holiday! Thanks For The Excellent Work, Administrator!Time to Catch Up! Thanks for another 5 star Saturday Night Special, which I listened to on Sunday Night, as well. Here We Go! Show # 714! The Big Sleep! Yes, we really need that longest night. I know that I do. I shall utilize the patented Ron Lynch method of 1 tune per set. Winter Solstice! Unleashes my Imagination. Rebirth Of The Planet! I choose "I Had Too Much to Dream(Last Night). Why? Because I dream in technicolor and I usually flow from one dream into another. Very Lucid Dreaming! Oh Yeah, It was by The Electric Prunes, duh! Set 2.Must choose Open My Eyes by the Nazz, featuring Todd Rundren. Reason being is that it was the best tune that he ever sang, IMHO! Set 3! Traffic! What A Set! I shall choose "Child Of The Moon" by the Rolling Stones, because that Full Moon On Christmas Was Indeed Excellent! Also a B-side, as well.Set 4. I shall choose "Restless Nights" by Bruce Springsteen and The East Street Band. The Reason, because that's what every night is for me. Restless! Set 5.I choose "I'm Only Sleeping" by The Beatles because I don't ever recall hearing a guitar part like that before 1966. Voila! I would like to mention that it was Very Cool To feature the tunes, "Endless Sleep", at the beginning of Set 1, sandwiched by "Sleepwalk", by Santo & Johnny, as musical beds. Also, because I helped teach classic Film Noir, Neo-Noir, and Retro-Noir, Films in Westfield, Massachusetts, as well as the 5 college area of UMASS_Amherst, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Smith College, and Mount Holyoke College, I must mention your tribute to that truly excellent Film Noir, The Big Sleep((1939), with Bogart and Becall! Exactly Who did kill the chauffeur? Even screenwriter Raymond Chandler commented "I Have No Idea". Excellent example of how Film Noir became a accepted genre, even though many profs still don't feel it is a genre. Style Over Content! Perfect! Also, because we lost my main Film Prof Jack, this past year. IN MEMORY! Well that's it for another week. I shall post once again this wekk because we now have 3 more shows to catch up on. Thanks Once again, Little Steven! I hope that you have a very Excellent New Years, 2016! Great to make it back from MY BIG SLEEP! That Cancer can Kill You, but I'm going to Live Forever! Everybody out there have a fab New Year! 2016! To all Who live IN and FOR The Underground Garage, Peace Be With You! EEYAHH! SMRZ!
