Show 686 - Decoration Day

Air Date:

Monday, 25 May 2015

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

This is a very, very, very exciting week.  It is the official end of winter as we come out of the Underground Garage and into the sunlight.

We are celebrating with some surf music this weekend.

We are celebrating the Rolling Stones coming to America.

We are celebrating James Bond.

Joining us will be the Beatles, the Stones, the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, the Impressions, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Johnny Rivers, and the Monkees.

Come find out what the Surf Bunnies, Little Walter, and the Monkees have in common.

It’s Decoration Day, a.k.a. Memorial Day, this weekend in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

Let the summer-long party begin.

I’ll see you this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Aw Man! Decoration Day Has Always Been A Special Show In The Underground Garage! Great Show! Show Show # 686! Decoration Day which Morphed Into Memorial Day! The Beginning of Summertime! Not Until June 21 on the calendar, However. It's Summertime, Baby! Hot Dogs, Drive Ins, Hot Summer Nights! For Your Pleasure tonight I shall choose 1 tune from each set, unless they warrant otherwise. Hats Off To Ron Lynch for his patented system. Set 1! I Pick 3 tunes. I Get Around by The Beach Boys Because It's time to get out during the warm months, Especially if you went through a hard Winter! I Gotta go with School Is Out, by Gary U.S.Bonds! 1961! I had the 45! I also pick (When Summer Comes)Gonna Hustle You by Jan and Dean, The perfect summer tune about growing up, being with a girl. Nothing Like The 1st Time! Such a very cool Summer Song! Get Out There and meet Those Chicks! Set 2.Gotta Go with Decoration Day by Sonny Boy Williamson! I was surprised once again every year. Memorial Day didn't become a Federal Holiday until 1971! Set 3. Around and Around by The Rolling Stones. Because it captures that raw energy that The Rolling Stones had back then. Confessin' The Blues by Little Walter! Was It 1941? Set 4. Must Haves. Love Disease by Paul Butterfield Blues Band because it is so freakin' Bluesy! Fool For You by The Impressions with lead vocal by Curtis Mayfield just because it is so Excellent! What A Voice! Sally Go Round The Roses by The Jaynettes from 1963. Because it is so Beautifully Haunting! Set 5. Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey from 1964! Most people consider it the Best Bond! I say From Russia With Love. 1963. 2nd Bond film. Winding Down By Winding Up with Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers. Wasn't that live? Cool Stuff, Man! Almost all of the new tunes are very Good like Rainbow Quartz by The Gripweeds! Very Cool Stuff! I Hope that you all have a very pleasant Memorial Day Weekend! Play Music! Dance! But remember what the holiday is all about. Those who gave their lives for The USA1 Peace! We Need To Crank It Down A Bit! Get out of all these Foreign Countries and Focus on our country! See you next week, Little Steven, when we shall be celebrating Sgt. Pepper! Go Out And Spread Some Love Around! Happy Memorial Day, 2015! You Are There! To All Who Live In And For The Underground Garage, EEYAHH! Peace And Love Through Music, SMRZ!

It's Father's Day. Went for a blast down the Waverley road at 07:30am came across a Raccoon mother and 7 little ones, so I stop and wait the mother looks at me and heads back off the road with 5 in tow. The 2 remaining babies just stare at me , so I slowly rumble by them. As I blast away I see the 2 little ones running down the side road after me. A very cool Bullitt blast indeed.
Thanks Smarse for the recognition, your info is needed and appreciated.
5 cool ones here people,I Get Around (Beach Boys)I use to blast down the road in the 70's to this song. Decoration Day (Sonny Boy Williamson) I was at Buddy Guy's Bar in Chicago and they make you feel like you have been going there for years, a great place. Empty Heart (Rolling Stones) excellent Stones song. Fool For You (Impressions) can't miss with this one. Secret Agent Man (Johnny Rivers) just love the tune, classic. Thanks Stevie, Keep on Rockin.
