Show 681 - Ringo Plays The Drums

Air Date:

Tuesday, 21 April 2015

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

Join us in the Underground Garage this weekend as we celebrate Ringo Starr’s brand new album Postcards From Paradise.

To help celebrate we will have every cool drummer represented.

Find out what Ginger Baker, Earl Palmer, and Viv Prince have in common.

It’s the only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you, with Ringo, this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Well Steed, you called that one. Ringo is funny and very engaging and cool. Speaking of cool ( if you like putting Jazz in your ears) I heard 5 cool ones-Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich,Tito Puente, Joe Morello and session artist Earl Palmer.

It was no surprise, Marlene... Ever since show 170 (Ringo !), every time Ringo released an album, Steve did a show on it... 170 "Choose Love", 310 "Liverpool 8", 409 "Y Not", and while there was no-show for "Ringo 2012", the song "Slow Down" was CSTWTW in show 515 "The Big Bang 2012"... I remember listening to show 170 back then... Ringo saying "Whatever you choose in life, choose love..."

Still, it is a nice concept to show us a variety of drummers in the show... Indeed it is nice to hear somewhere that it was Clem Cattini who played drums on "Hurdy Gurdy Man"... The guy who played drums on 44 number one hit singles in the UK...

Nice to hear "Keep Up the Speed" from the Sahara Hotnights... I think the previous time the song was played in the Garage was in show 53 or 63... Something like that...

Now for a funny story... Last summer, my girlfriend wanted a small dog for our son... I didn't... But I figured if a guy like Steven is okay with a small dog, I guess I could too... Now I find out that if Maureen and Steven have a dog it is because of Ringo...

Just too bad there won't be a show as "John Sings the Songs" or "George Plays the Guitar"...

    Hey Little Steven!
Great show--my favorite, but how can you do a show called "Ringo Plays the Drums," and not include the song you always say features his best drumming ever--Rain? Rock on, brother!

    Steven,

Just finished the Ringo Show. I have to listen online these days, the local radio station stopped playing the show a few years ago. Heard you talking about the Rock n Roll documentaries out these days. I have been watching on Netflix. The best so far was the Muscle Shoals story and Rick Hall. I have also watched Harry Nilson, Ginger baker and Rush. All very good and filling in the back story that no one has really ever heard. Keep up the good work.

    Hey Little Steven!

    Such a fun show!

This is actually the first time I've ever tuned into your program... Love it!

I have a question about "Long Tall Sally". There are two versions that I've been always aware of, and the one you played seems to me to be, by far, the tamer of the two. I find it curious that you chose this version.
Do you know the other version I speak of?
It's killer. Monstrous. Full-out, pure rock n' roll energy.

Just tried to find it on youtube so I could link you to it, but no luck. I have it on my computer, but I can't upload it here of course. Oh well. Maybe you know the one I'm talking about...?

    Anyway, thanks for the music!
