Wow, after three shows with Ringo Starr, I wondered why Paul McCartney never got an interview. And now, here he is! Also, after a show with only new music, we get to cleanse our palate with mostly older Beatles songs.

Amazing honor to have The New Trocaderos' song on that set list. The Trocs are blown away and can't thank the Underground Garage enough.

This is my first visit to the Underground Garage, though I've known about its connection with my beloved Grip Weeds for some time. Thanks, Steven, for this wonderful musical adventure.

Rick I have to say I heard the Grip Weeds for the first time a couple of years ago on the Underground Garage and was blown away. Love their stuff and I am an old man born in the mid 50's.

Sure would love to see them come to Austin and play again.

Paul's sense of humor and humility (at least when he is being interviewed) comes across. Not too sure if Paul agrees with Little Steven's analysis of "Tomorrow Never Knows". A super show, one for the ages.

What is that for a song by Paul after Rain?

    • Steed Colliss
      01/08/2015

"Dance 'til We're High" by Fireman...

"Dance 'Til We're High" is about as great a track as there is on the downright amazing "Electric Arguments"- which is a Paul McCartney solo album by any other name, & a great one at that.
I love that Little Steven said that "Dance 'Til We're High" was a former coolest song in the world. It's a great deep cut! I believe Paul has even done it at Sound Checks before, IIRC, but has yet to ever perform it live. Too bad, it is a great one!!!

"Dance 'Till We're High" was one of the songs performed atop the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee on David Letterman a few years ago.

Good show, good interview... Two Bealtes songs played for the first time in the garage: "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Got to Get You into my Life"...

Please note that the playlist is missing Fireman's "Dance 'til We're High" in set one and Paul and Linda McCartney and the Wings' "Live and Let Die" in set four (which is another first in the garage)...

Je suis encore Charlie (and hello to Brian Ray who is also Charlie)...

And finally, great choice of yet another deep cut "On My Way To Work" from McCartney's most recent solo effort, the incredible "New".
Of all the elder statesman, McCartney is about at the top of the heap for his later era works. I honestly don't think he's released anything less than a terrific album starting with "Flowers In The Dirt" in '89- from that album onwards it's just been varying degrees of great.
For example, I'll take this era of McCartney over this era of Dylan. The only artist from this era I can think of who might be surpassing McCartney (which is no small feat, as "New" is killer) is probably Paul Simon, whose last two albums, "Surprise" & "So Beautiful Or So What" are truly as great as anything he's ever done.

Paul is one of the greatest song writers/producer/showman of our times. His work as a Beatle & solo with his bands past & present will never be forgotten. Thanks Paul, your show in Hailfax was mind blowing.
These songs by Paul & the Beatles are all cool, just picking 5. Hope For The Future (Paul McCartney), On My Way To Work (Paul McCartney), Please Mister Postman (Beatles), With A Little Help From My Friends (Beatles) & We Can Work It Out (Beatles). Thanks Stevie great interview, Keep on Rockin.

Love the cut "Dance 'til We're High", thanks LS. Also, dig that they connect on how the approach to writing "Hope For The Future" comes from the perspective of the video game - great observation. Listening to these guys talk about the studio recording experience... priceless.

Man just listened to the whole thing and it was great.

Good job Steven and thank you Sir Paul for everything.

I was fortunate to get to see Paul's tour when it came to Austin about a year ago and I must say it was the greatest live show I have ever seen in my life and I have seen a lot of shows in my 60 years. Almost three hours long and the guys he had playing with him were amazing. They did Paperback Writer which is a tough song vocally to reproduce and they absolutely nailed it. Amazing.
