Show 662 - Rock and Roll Circus

Air Date:

Monday, 08 December 2014

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

When was the last time you went to the circus?

Well come one, come all, and join us this weekend in the Underground Garage, where we are celebrating the Rolling Stones’ Rock & Roll Circus, that featured the Who, Taj Mahal, the super group jam with Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Keith Richards, and Mitch Mitchell, and of course the Stones themselves introducing some new songs, like Jumpin’ Jack Flash.

Come discover what Stevie Wonder, Marianne Faithfull, and Ivor the Engine Driver have in common.

This weekend in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

We’re going to the circus baby.

I’ll see you this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Great show! I first saw the Rolling Stones Rock n' Roll Circus on TV on New Years Eve 1996, when I was 12 years old. I had been playing guitar myself for a little over a year, and that show was a game changer. Watching the great guitar players like Jesse Ed Davis, Pete Townshend, and especially Eric Clapton's solo on "Yer Blues", really made me want to learn to do that. Wasnt just them though, the whole thing was cool. I was very surprised to find out years later that the Stones were unhappy with their performance. I thought they rocked!

Thanks Little Steven for more inspirational programming! :-)

It's in 16mm? You can see a camera tracking around in the background, and it looks bigger than 16mm, but IMBD says it's 16mm, so I believe it.

I bought the compact disc immediately after its release, and I saw the film the first time that VH-1 aired it. I was thrilled that it was finally available, because up until then, I had only seen The Who's performance in the film "The Kids are Alright." I also have a poster from it featuring a photo of The Dirty Mac playing, which I got in the late 80s (before punk rock took over).
