Show 640 - Fireworks A Go-Go

Air Date:

Monday, 07 July 2014

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

Summer kicks into high gear with our Fireworks A Go-Go show this weekend.

We have all the information about summer those history books are afraid to tell you.

Such as, who invented the drive-in, the visionary that created the Lava Lamp, and all kinds of invaluable information like that.

Joining us will be the Who, the Turtles, the Beach Boys, the Impressions, the Kinks, and Moby Grape.

It’s our July 4th celebration we call Fireworks A Go-Go in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you on the beach in the Underground Garage.

As for UAVIP, I learned that Tesla Motors have also started a program to hire veterans... That, right after putting their patents public... I wish I had the money to buy one of their cars...

Can DavidWhite get a hold of me, please? I would love to see his records of most played songs on The Underground Garage. I am on Facebook. David, so if you give me a friend request on Jon Pike, I'll friend you. I'm making spotify and pandora playlists of Cooolest Songs In The World, Top Artists and Top Songs. I'm compiling Top Artists, right now and the only meaningful places I have for artists currently are: Beatles, Rolling Stones and Yardbirds.

"Two oat sodas, Gary..." (You can look up the meaning of that on IMDB...)

Naaaaa... In all seriousness... If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll provide you and the rest of the LSUG with a list of the top twenty songs played and how many times they were played... (Though it won't include songs from this week's show, "Yellow Submarine"... Also, you should know by now that among the most played artists, you should have the Ramones and Bruce Springsteen... I don't know how long you've been listening to the LSUG, but you'll find out that Little Steven often plugs (and it's his right, it's his show, after all) his stuff and his friends... But then again, remember I wrote "Two oat sodas, Gary..."

Also, not only for you, but for all the LSUG people, a RIP for Tommy Ramone who passed away two days ago... Everyone should watch the documentary "Ramones: End of the Century", especially the part when Dee Dee is saying that Tommy was actually going to the grocery store to buy meat and potatoes and then going back to his place and cook it and eat... By the way, I was at the Soundgarden show in Quebec City last night and the band did "Rusty Cage" from Badmotorfinger" in Tommy's honour... And some kid at the show had the nerve of asking me at some point what song they were doing and i replied "Black Hole Sun", which was indeed the song the band was playing... Sheeshh... Kids today... Okay... When I think back about it, maybe he wasn't even born when that song was released...

That's fine Steed. In all seriousness I fully expect some artists that he has produced and.or played on. Springsteen will eventually be up there. I'm expecting some Wicked Cool artists to "pop."

The number of plays a song gets can be a little misleading because some shows get repeated often and others less often, so any songs in those shows get a lot of plays. Tina Sugandh's "White Christmas (Parvati's Pleasure)" is a perfect example. It only has ever been played on the two Christmas shows, but those get replayed every year so the number of times played overall is quite high.

To get a different perspective on who is most played, I have put together a list of the artists who have had the greatest number of different songs played on the Underground Garage. Here are the top ten:

            1. The Rolling Stones (109 different songs played)
            2. The Beatles (103 different songs played)
            3. The Ramones (64 different songs played)
            4. Bruce Springsteen (with and without the ESB) (58 different songs played)
            5. The Byrds (36 different songs played)
            6. The Kinks (31 different songs played)
            7. The Who (29 different songs played)
            8. Bob Dylan (with and without The Band) (29 different songs played)
            9. The Yardbirds (26 different songs played)
            10. The Beach Boys (25 different songs played)

Not far off the top ten list are two bands that are noteworthy because all of the songs of theirs that have been played were released in the 2000s. The Woggles have had 23 different songs played (released between 2000 and 2013) and Cocktail Slippers have had 20 different songs played (released between 2003 and 2014).

It's a lot harder for new bands to get a lot of different songs played now because pretty much the only way to get played now is to have a new song picked as the CSITWTW. In the early days of the show Little Steven played a lot more current music whether or not it was a CSITWTW pick. Most songs by The Woggles and almost half the songs by Cocktail Slippers were never CSITWTW picks. So it's not likely any band will challenge these two for most songs played of post-2000 releases.

Just saw Bruce's vid on Hunter of Invisible Game on the web site. I whole lot of artistic talent in this Vid. Bruce digs so deep into this character he makes it really believable.
5 cool ones here tonight. One Potato Two Potato (Crossfires), I’m Down (Beatles), (I Live For) Cars & Girls (Dictators), Soul Man (Bruce Springsteen, Sam Moore, & the E Street Band) & Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window (Roger Daltrey & Wilko Johnson).
    Thanks Stevie, Keep on Rockin.

I had to re-do my most-played artists list. I'll update as necessary. Here is the only meaningful result at this point: Beach Boys.
