Show 552 - Halloween A Go-Go X!

Air Date:

Monday, 29 October 2012

Hey baby, Little Steven here. Our show this week in the Underground Garage is Halloween A Go-Go to prepare you for Garage Rock’s favorite holiday.

We’re going to tell you how the whole thing got started. And contrary to popular belief it wasn’t started by a bunch of dentists.

Joining us will be the Who, the Sonics, the Mothers Of Invention, and the Shadows Of Knight.

We will be playing the band version of “Dinner With Drac” by John Zacherle not heard on the radio in forty years.

Not to mention the band version of Larry and the Blue Notes’ Texas classic not heard for thirty five years.

And the band version of Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages, never heard.

Find out what Lux Interior, Jarvis Humby, and Tito & Tarantula have in common.

It’s Halloween A Go-Go, this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Let's See Now. Laughing In the Face Of the Apocalypse. Your Sacred Soul Is Torn Between The Sacred & The Profane. Now You Will Learn Why You Fear the Night! Why-It must be Halloween A-Go-G0 X-2012! Thank You So Very Much, Little Steven, for an extra special 5 Star Saturday Night that could only be found in The Underground Garage! I really missed your Halloween Shows last year because you featured your very important 500th Show. I'm not complaining, mind you, but Halloween is so very important to me & is The Favorite Holiday of Underground Garage members. We are now up to Show # 552 & I must admit that I enjoyed your creepy sound bytes & lessons from you just as much as the very cool music, Mr. Maharaj Of Garage! Set 1 highlights. Time Warp by Dr. Frank-N-Furter & cast of Rocky Horror. Talk about Riff-Raff. I Walked With A Zombie by the late Great Roky Erickson & the Aliens from 1980. The very cool Fuzztones with I'm The Wolfman. The very rare B-side by The Who-Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Closing the perfect set out with The Kingsmen & Jolly Green Giant which they borrowed from the Olympics tune Big Boy Pete. Excellent explanation of the origins of Halloween by you Stevie. "Hallow's Eve- when the spirit world interact with the Living'. How very Cool! Set 2-dedicated to The Dead-Who Else? Opening with Jack The Ripper by Lord Sutch & The Savages which was banned by BBC in both 1961 & also 1963. The very Psychotronic Psycho by The Sonics, which was then followed by Night Of The Sadist by Larry & The Blue Notes, which was also banned, but not by the BBC. Closing out another very cool set with Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones. Set 3 opened with your anecdote about Orson Welles & his Halloween fun broadcast of The War Of The Worlds which terrified the East Coast on 10-30-38. 6 Million people listened as Mars attacked Earth! Very strange that the whole thing was a psychological study on the "Psychology Of Fear" put on by Princeton University. Musically, we get Mommy's Little Helper by Social Distortion. This followed by Carl Perkins with Put Your Cat Clothes On from WAY back in 1957. Gotta have some Zappa & the Mothers with Hungry Freaks, Daddy from the excellent Freak-Out LP. Closing out set 3 with She by The Monkees, which was taken from the 1965 film of the same name which starred the beautiful Ursula Andress. Other film versions of She were also done in 1917, 1926,& 1935. "Listen to Them-Children Of The Night-What Music They Make". "They're Dead! They're All Messed Up". Set 4. Eat My Fear by Setting Sun-Coolest Song of the Week. Cheap Trick with Dream Police, which was followed by Tell It To Carrie by The Romantics. The Shadows Of Knight contribute with Alone. Set 5. Ya know-"There's no stoppin' the cretins from Hoppin'" from Cretin Hop by The Ramones. She's A Monster by the Stems from Australia. And what with Halloween be without "The Cool Ghoul", Mr. John Zacherle & Dinner With Drac pt. 1 from 1958 & which was banned so's you can only hear it in The Underground Garage. The Cramps kick in with Creature From The Black Leather Lagoon. We All Miss You, Lux! Closing out both the set & the excellent show with After Dark by Tito & Tarantula. Now that was a show that you could really sink your teeth into! Thank you so very much, Stevie! It was certainly great to have Halloween back this year! Before I sign off, I would like to offer my heart-felt condolences to ALL victims of Frankenstorm Sandy! My thoughts & prayers are with you all! Well-I guess that's it for another week. thanks again, Stevie, and remember "Don't Take Candy From Any Strangers"! Maybe I'll seeyou here next week for Halloween-pt. 2. The Revenge Of The Candy! Until then-Peace Be With You All who live IN & For The Underground Garage!! EEYAHH!! SMRZ!!!

I'm a new Podcast subscriber to the shows. I can't seem to find the English version of the Podcast. The Podcasts I found begin with an introduction in Spanish.

Is there an all-English version of the Podcasts?

          11/18/2012

greggie434. You can here the Thanksgiving show if you go into the archives for Show #451, which was on 11-22-10. We didn't have a Thanksgiving show last year because of the special interview with Robbie Robertson. Take care, Brosky! Don't forget that Little Steven's birthday is the same day as Thanksgiving this year, which is 11-22. Stevie will turn 62! boy he does SO much for someone who is getting on inyears. I'm turning 65 in January. Maybe I'll retire!

Robert, I have that show on tape, in fact, there R say 550 shows on here and I got at least 541 on cassette and C D's. I even have the commercials form our radio station in Philadelphia. I figure in 20,30 years the commercials will be fun to listen to also!

            • Robert P Smarse Jr.
              11/28/2012

Hey greggie434. I hope that you are well. I think that it is SO COOL that you have all of those shows. Good for you, Brosky. My computer is having major problems so if I drop out you will know why. Have some good Holidays & take care of yourself, Brosky.

Awesome! Just took down the mass of bats and web in the kitchen. Figured listening to Little Steven and his Pre-Enlightened Twinkie was just the ticket. That, and the Ramones. Thanks.
