Show 537- Batman 2012

Air Date:

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

Hey baby, Little Steven here with our Underground Garage pop quiz of the week.

Who wears tights, delivers his line with a special authority, and flys around the universe?

No it’s not Captain Kirk, it’s Batman, and we’re celebrating him this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Joining us will be the Kinks, the Sonics, Traffic, and the J.Geils Band.

Brand new music from the Nevermores, Make Out, Alejandro Escovedo, and from the Rock n’ Roll capitol of the world Brattleboro Vermont, King Tuff.

There is only one place where you can find out what Rufus Thomas, Tom Jones and Julie Newmar have in common.

Yes we know there is a new Batman movie out there. What, do you think we’re stupid?

We don’t care - we’re celebrating the TV show because it was much cooler. Join us this weekend in the Underground Garage.

Underground Garage sponsor Andy Babiuk was on History Detectives this week, authenticating what is possibly a guitar owned by Bob Dylan.

Thank you once again, Little Steven, for yet another excellent show & information session. I would also like to thank the administrator for keeping us right up to date with all of the shows. THANK U VERY MUCH!! All underground members should NOT take the administrator's work for granted! Remember how bad things were about 4 weeks ago? Anyway, for all those who care, I had successful surgery on 7-25 for my L Achilles tendon & am now on the slow road to recovery. The cast on my L foot feels like a Ball & Chain. thank you all out there for your prayers. All were/are very much appreciated. Now on to the important stuff. Show # 537-Batman. Timeline. As you said, Stevie, 1st appeared in May 1939, in Detective Comics # 27. Batman's origin story is revealed in Detective Comics # 33 in Nov. 1939. We are here to pay homage to the campy-Pop Art T.V. series that ran from 1966-68. 3 seasons & 120 episodes. Set 1. Biff Bang Pow! by The Creation(1966). One of the BEST groups out of the U.K. & totally ignored here in the USA. The Standells with Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White, Rockin' Robin by The Henchmen from Australia(65)& ending the set with the very cool Midnight To Six Man by The Pretty Things. Set 2. The incredible There's A Bimbo Under My Bed by Mr. Adam West, I Need You by The Kinks, & Man Of The World by Alejandro Escovedo. Excellent sound byte by the late Great Heath Ledger, who, even the Academy could NOT ignore & posthumously awarded a well-deserved Oscar! "Why So Serious?. For my dough, his performance in The Dark Knight(2008), was/is the BEST EVER to be put on the silver screen. Set 3. Dedicated to Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman & even made her own costume & wore the belt at her hips to highlight her hourglass figure. MEOW! Carl Perkins with Put Your Cat Clothes On, Stray Cat Blues by The Rolling Stones from Beggar's Banquet(1968), Leave My Kitten Alone by the Sonics & closing with What"s New Pussycat? by Tom Jones, which was the title of the very cool flick from 1965 with Peter O' Toole. Set 4. Opening with the coolest song of the week, which was Bad Thing by King Tuff from nearby Vermont, Traffic with the incredible Paper Sun, Missionary by Branden Daniel & the Chics, & closing the set with Bend Me, Shape Me, by The American Breed. Set 5 which was dedicated to all of the very cool villians! The Joker Is Wild by Jan & Dean, Poison Ivy by the Coasters, Freeze Frame by The J. Geils Band, I'm Shakin' by Jack White, Do the Funky Penguin by Rufus Thomas & closing with Mr. Steve Martin & the very cool King Tut! All in All, an excellent show, as usual, Little Steven. "Wait 'Till they Get A Load Of Me". That's Jack N. as The Joker. Before I sign off, I feel that I would short change U.G. members without a complete rundown of ALL of The Batman Movies. So-Here We Go! Batman(1989)-with Michael Keaton & Jack Nicholson as The Joker. Directed by Tim Burton. Tim put The GOTH into Gotham!! Batman Returns(1992), with Michael Keaton, Danny De Vito, Christopher Walken, & Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Again directed by Tim Burton. This Time It's Personal! Batman Forever(1995), with Val Kilmer as Batman, Jim Carrey as The Riddler, & Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. Directed by Joel Schumacher. Batman & Robin(1997), with George Clooney as Batman, Chris O'Donnel as Robin, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, & Arnold Scharzenegger as Mr. Freeze. OhYeah-almost forgot Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. Again directed by Joel Schumacher. It got terrible reviews but I thout that it was an ABSOLUTE RIOT!! But that's just Me! Onward to a new look & taking the HAM out of Gotham. Batman Begins(2005) with Christian Bale as Batman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Cilliam Murphy, Gary Oldham, & Mr. Morgan Freeman. Directed with a new style & flair by Christopher Nolan. The Dark Knight(2008)-Serious Times, Serious Tale, Seriously GOOD!! Again with Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, who won an Oscar as best supporting Actor, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, & Maggie Gyllenhaal. Again directed by Christopher Nolan. Which brings us to The Dark Knight Rises(2012) I haven't seen this one yet & won't be able to due to my condition UNLESS RAVE Cinemas set up a PRIVATE screening for me at my house. NOT LIKELY!! I do have my 2 free passes but they aren't doing me much good at this time! Oh Well!! Reviews have been very positive & everyone that I have spoken with have LOVED it!! Well, I guess that's it for now. Thank you all for bearing with me if you have. COOL BAT STUFF!! YEAH-BABY!! Once again, I send my heartfelt prayers & condolences to all victims, friends, & family members from last weeks's Midnight Massacre in Colorado!! Next week, we shall be posting on "What It Is". Thank you once again, Stevie, for another fun & educational Sat. Night. Signing off. To All who Live IN & FOR The Underground Garage! Peace Be With You All!! Sincerely-EEYAHH! SMRZ!!!

Nice to hear Poison Ivy. I always figured that Bruce Springsteen's "You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)" was based on Poison Ivy, but nobody else ever seems to have picked up on that.
