Show 535 - Fireworks A Go-Go 2012

Air Date:

Sunday, 01 July 2012

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

Summer kicks into high gear with our Fireworks A Go-Go show this weekend.

We have all the information about summer those history books are afraid to tell you.

Such as, who invented the drive-in, the visionary that created the Lava Lamp, and all kinds of invaluable information like that.

Joining us will be the Who, the Turtles, the Beach Boys, the Impressions, the Kinks, and Moby Grape.

It’s our July 4th celebration we call Fireworks A Go-Go in the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you on the beach in the Underground Garage.

Thanks once again, Little Steven, for yet another 5 star show, that was so good that I listened to it on both Sat. & Sun. nights. Unfortunately, I then ruptured my L Achilles Tendon on Monday, 7-2-12, & am having surgery on Wed. 7-25. I forgot that I was 64 & thought that it was 1966 again & decided to play some outside basketball on new hard black pavement. BIG MISTAKE!! I should have learned from 4 years ago when I ruptured my R Achilles Tendon playing baseball. Oh Well-Live & Learn? All LSUG members, please say a little prayer for me, if you can find it in your hearts. I certainlt NEED IT!! Thank U very much! Anyway, enuff of my problems & time to get to the important stuff. Please forgive if I am a little short on my review, as the OTC CVS meds don't quite do it for my pain. Show#535-Fireworks A Go-Go 2012. Set 1. Excellent display of an evolution of a surf to a folk-rock pop group with Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan's Crossfires to the very cool & underrated Turtles. Evolution from Fiberglass Jungle to Outside Chance, which was , as you said Stevie, a Top 5 Hit! Set 2. Excellent anecdote re: Lawn Chair Larry & his 2 hour-16,000 ft. journey on 7-1-82, which only ended up with a $4,000. fine. Asyou said, Stevie, "Nothing comes with a guarantee". Musical highlights include: How Is The Air Up There? by New Zealand's La Dee Das. Locked Down by the Psychedelic Voodoo of Dr. John the Night Tripper is Back! Yeah-Baby! & The Beatles' excellent B-side to Help, which was I'm Down! Set 3. Great tribute to the Drive-In Movies. Thank U very much. Mr. Richard M. Hollingsworth! Leave it to New Joisey!! Thank goodness that his mother was too big for regular movie seats. I could tell you about my numerous adventures at the Drive-Ins, but I'll spare you that. Except for this one. Back in 1965, at about midnight, returning from The Red Rock Drive-In, which was in Southampton, Mass., going b ack to Westfield, I pulled the car over to the side of the road in Easthampton, Mass. My gal & I noticed a large Movie Crew just outside of The Red Basket Bar & restaurant. We then watched as they were filming Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal, & Sandy Dennis. They were shooting an outside scene in the parking lot fron the 1966 Film "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf?" It was filmed around Smith College & the Northampton area. If you've ever seen the movie, it was the outside scene when Liz & Richard were fighting with each other. Check it Out! I kid you NOT!! Go to Wikipedia or other sources & you will see that I am not just kidding. They had Large overhead lights for filming & about a film crew of about 20 people or so. VERY PSYCHOTRONIC!! musical highlights include: Blue Cheer's Summertime Blues, I Live For Cars & Girls-The Dictators with Handsome Dick Manitoba, & the excellent 35 Millimeter Dreams by Garland Jeffries. Set 4. Great sound-byte by Bill Murray-"I Hate The Sun, Ocean, Beach, & Sand". Great new coolest song of the week by Jack White-I'm Shakin' written by Rudolph Toombs, Stones with Soul Survivor, & the great Curtis Mayfield & Impressions with Woman's Got Soul from 1965. Another cool sound byte by Eric Von Zipper-"She Don't Ride With Nobody But Me". Set 5. Very Cool tribute to Edward Craven Walker, who invented the Lava Lamp in 1963. Well deserved Freak Of The Week who was well ahead of his time & really only wanted to walk around naked on the beaches of Southern France. "Ever Seen A Grown Man Naked?" Musical highlights include the incredible Claudine Clark with Party Lights-1962. I sent you 2 e-mails, Stevie, & that's the best I could do with that enigma, who later changed her name to Joy Dawn & recorded a Rock Operatta. I couldn't even find out if she was still alive today! Till The End Of The Day-Kinks, great new stuff by The Beach Boys with That' Why God Made The Radio. Incredible harmonies still to this day. Great PBS special on The Beach Boys-Doin' It Again from the Front Row Center series. Absolutely fab 16mm footage of sessions recording Good Vibrations. As Greggie434 said, the whole album is Excellent, with themes about aging, lost dreams, etc., which I can really relate to. Finishing with Bob Mosley's song with Moby Grape, Naked If I Want To! Yeah-Baby-Let me walk down the street THAT WAY-but alas, I would only be surrounded & attacked by teenage girls! Only In My Dreams-Of Course!! Well, I guess that"s it for another excellent Show & Sat. Night. Gotta Go Ice my Tendon. Talk about Back To Stoopid Reality!! Take care, L.S. Where are you now? Prague or somewhere else. I'm excited that Bruce, you & the gang will be playing Fenway Park in Boston in August! Just too bad for me that I still haven't learned Not To Exceed My Expectations. Take Care Y'all, & I hope to seez you next week in the ultimate Coolsville-The Underground Garage!! We should be seeing The Girls Of Summer-2012 there also1 Mamie, Nancy, Ann,& Edie. Peace Be With You All!! EEYAHH!! SMRZ!!!
