Show 529 - Bob Dylan 2012

Air Date:

Monday, 21 May 2012

Hey baby, Little Steven here.

It is Bob Dylan’s birthday this week, and helping us celebrate will be the Ramones, Gary U.S. Bonds, Jason & the Scorchers, George Harrison, and Jimi Hendrix.

Brand new music from the Hives, Capsula from Argentina, and Baby Woodrose.

Come find out what the Turtles, Little Richard, and Al Aronowitz have in common.

I’ll give you a hint. It has something to do with Reverend Garry Davis.

I’ll see you at the world’s only Rock n’ Roll dance party on the radio.

I’ll see you in the Underground Garage.

Thank U so very much, Little Steven, for yet another 7 STAR SPECIAL!! At least 1 extra star for Bob's 71st BIRTHDAY! Lotza stuff to cover so-HERE WE GO!! Set 1-Byrds excellent version of The Times They Are A Changin'. Boy- were they ever!Subterranean Homesick Blues-Dylan. Nice version of Younger Than Yesterday by Ramones from Acid Eaters. Little Richard's Groovy Little Susie. Love the sound byte where Little Richard realizes he's only getting 1/2 CENTS for each record sold. Better Look at that Contract again. Capping it off with Bob's tribute to you,L.S.,-Silvio. Yeah right about now people were getting it about Bob's knowledge re: The Secret Of The Universe. Set 2- Great anecdote that changed 60's music & Culture with Al Aronowitz and his getting Dylan-The Beatles-& Pot together. Leave it to Ringo to Bogart That Joint!! Now, suddenly The Beatles really can say I FEEL FINE!! Great version of From A Buick 6 by Gary U.S. Bonds from his vastly underrated 1981 LP Dedication. Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat from Blonde On Blonde(1966). Bob's I Want You, which I still have with the PICTURE SLEEVE! The late great Etta James ALWAYS knew that you GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY! Manfred Mann & nice version of The Mighty Quinn finish up set 3. The RENAISSANCE! Yes -Something was missing . One more part to change Music as we knew it then. DYLAN-Personal Expression-Topical-Metaphor. Yes this was about the time that we would all get stoned and try to de-code EVERY DYLAN LYRIC!! Yes Bob-Keep A Cool Head & ALWAYS CARRY A LIGHT BULB!! How many Protest singers? EXACTLY? About 136 or 142!! I See Myself As A Song and Dance Man! Set 4- Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? 3rd single and the ONLY one with The Hawks(The Band). I've got that 45 too. But without a PICTURE SLEEVE! If Not For You-George Harrison. Set 5-All I REally Want To Do-Cher with Sonny. Great version of Baby Let Me Follow You Down-Dylan & The Band. Closing with the incredible HENDRIX version of All Along The Watchtower! No Reason To Get Excited! Excellent new stuff by Cocktail Slippers, The Hives,Capsula from Argentina,Baby Woodrose and the LYSERGIC rush of Down To The Bottom, and the coolest song of the week by Dr. John, sounding like The Night Tripper from1968 and Locked Down. Excellent new release. I almost forgot-Dave Clark Five-Got Love If You Want It which sounds better & better each time I hear it. Yeah-Dylan & his Mercury years. He DEFINATELY knew The Secret Of The Universe. Thanks once again, L.S., Great Picture of you and Bruce from your Good Friday concert from MSG in the June issue og Brit. Mag Uncut-Pg.110-111. Kudos to You! Gotta move now so's I can re-play this episode at least 1xper day for the next 2 weeks. Thank You so very Much, L.S. Peace Be With YOU and to ALL who live IN and FOR The Underground Garage! And Just One More Thing! EEYAHH!! SMRZ!!!

Just saw one of Bob's Traveling Wilbury brothers here in Halifax (Tom Petty & the Heart Breakers) They Rocked the Metro Centre just as Bob has done before.
Good to hear from Russell Crowe, I have alot of respect for him. Also Alice Cooper, Robbie Robertson cool cats. Cher did a wicked performance of a Dylan song.
Not many inspire me to write songs, but Bob is in the top 2 for me.
    Happy Birthday Bob

    Thank you Stevie
