The Bruce and Stevie Show - Part 1

on Thursday, 31 March 2011.

The Bruce and Stevie Show

Little Steven's Underground Garage Celebrates 9th Anniversary With First-Ever Guest Appearance By Bruce Springsteen!

We will celebrate the 9th anniversary of Little Steven's Underground Garage by airing an unprecedented conversation with guest Bruce Springsteen over the course of three consecutive weekends, April 1, 8 and 15.

The appearance marks Springsteen's first visit to the show. The unique conversation loose, fun and full of laughs - opens a window on the period during which Bruce and Stevie's lifelong friendship was cemented as the two discuss their musical pilgrimages from New Jersey to Greenwich Village in the mid-60's, and spin the songs that inspired and brought them together as musicians.

Beginning with the first installment, Little Steven and Bruce will cover the pop and novelty songs of their youth before moving on to the British Invasion in the second show, and music's evolution into the rock era of the late sixties and seventies in the third.

Check out our affiliates page for a full list of stations and show times.

"Hi everybody, this is Bruce Springsteen.

Join me this weekend as I co-host Little Steven's Underground Garage with Little Steven himself, in a 3-part celebration of the 9th anniversary of the Underground Garage.

We're going to be talking about our roots, the records that we love and that drove us crazy growing up in Jersey, our favorite songs.

So tune in for the Bruce and Stevie Show, this weekend in Little Steven's Underground Garage.

Congratulations, Stevie!"

I'd to listen the show live, from Toronto. When does the show air live, from the studio? Is there an online link available at the time the show airs live? Thanks.

Hi, Alison! What I do to get the show as it is broadcast is stream it off of the website of a radio station that carries the show. I currently reside in a city that doesn't have LSUG, either (shame on them!), but I just look up an affiliate that *does* carry it and grab their feed whenever the show is on. You may have to play a bit with time zones, but I do that, myself --- depending on the time of year, I either pull LSUG off my old "home" station in Houston, or off of KSAN in San Francisco. Since you are in Scotland, your best bet would be to try one of the Swedish affiliates, I think --- that's closest to your time-zone. You can also sort-of "customize your listening-time" this way, since you can stream from anywhere in the world, and pick a station in a time-zone that works best for you. Hope this helps! Cheers! --- Steve Dinges (Mesa, Arizona, United States of America)

Are you guys going to tell embarrassing stories about each others' youthful indiscretions? That would make it really entertaining:)

Been hoping you'd get around to having Bruce on one of these days, Steven --- I've always had a weird sort of respect for you for *not* "pulling the Bruce Card" all that much, in spite of the fact that E-Street and its founder very much legitimately deserve a prominent place on a show featuring "Garage Rock", but after nine years, I think you've "earned the right" to say "Oh, yeah, y'know, there's this guy I know very well who's very important to the whole Garage thing . . ." :-). Honestly, I'm not usually a fan of the "interview" shows, but Bruce is an "exception that proves the rule" (the other big one is Ringo), and I *know* this is going to be a total hoot, even for people who "think they aren't Bruce fans"!

Steve Dinges (late of Houston, Texas, currently residing in the Phoenix area)

P.S. There's one other *great* interview that I hope you can pull off one day, if you and he have the time, at the same time (tough, I know) --- please get *Pete Townshend* in the studio some time soon! He's the original "mouth that roared", and always a great interview, and obviously one of the major "household gods" of The Underground Garage. Like with Bruce, I kinda-sorta "can't believe" you haven't had him on with you, yet, given his stature and prominence in rock, and in the playlists around here. Rock on, Little Steven!

Listening to the show in real-time: "The problem was that the first thing they wanted you to do was be able to read music, and I was like 'You don't understand' ---I needed to rock, NOW . . . I needed to make this HORRIFIC NOISE, RIGHT NOW!" :-)) Bruce, I think you speak for *all* of us :-D --- go, man, go! Absolutely *classic*!

Hi. I can't play the streaming audio (employer blocks it) and I wasn't able to hear the show on Sunday night. Does this get replayed on Sirius/XM (my employer blocks that website also now, so I can't check)? If so, can anyone tell me when?

Incredible! Loved the show. I learned a lot. It was interesting hearing Bruce's thoughts on the horrid state of guitar instruction "back in the day"! I remember it well. I didn't want to learn how to read music. I wanted to play like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters asap!
